Images From The
Past — A Self-guided Tour of
Petroglyphs and Pictographs of the American Southwest 109-page paperback, with 47 photographs. This book is the first publication for Robin Scott Bicknell, an Arizona resident with a penchant for bouncing about boulders, shooting stones – with a 35mm camera that is! Bicknell invites readers to share in his obsession, promising a self-guided tour of rock art locations and sites in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah and just over the border in Baja California, Mexico. Images From The Past is a book penned for the average Jane or Joe – no doctorate is needed. This is a book for the "Rock Art Rookie", written in simple English. Even the reader who does not know the difference between a pictograph and a phonograph can follow Bicknell’s book to the places where history remains, quite literally, printed on stones. Images From The Past gives the reader a brief description of
each rock art location the writer has traveled to, all possessing an
abundance of camera-worthy exhibits. Also included is a photograph of
each area and a mention about some of the artwork to be found, as well
as unique aspects of a particular site. Conveniently, the rock art guide
notes camping facilities nearby, and warns of road conditions the driver
will encounter. Most of the sites in the book can be accessed by car;
however, a few will require a short hike to view the petroglyphs and
pictographs. |
