| The Trail Band Folks who attended recent OCTA conventions will never forget the exciting performances of Marv Rosss Trail Band. The band was formed in 1993 for the express purpose of building interest in the sesquicentennial of the 1843 Great Migration over the Oregon Trail.
Ross assembled some of Oregons finest musicians for the event. When word got out of the performances, the band was in great demand, not only in Oregon but all across the United States and in several foreign countries. The ensemble performs music that was heard on the Oregon Trail during its heyday. Most folks are familiar with the first number on "Trails End," "Sweet Betsy From Pike." Betsy "crossed the plains with her lover Ike," got plastered on cheap whiskey and mooned the whole wagon train. Others include "Down in the Valley," "Polly Wolly," "Little Liza Jane," and ten more not so familiar but every bit as enjoyable. "Voices From the Oregon Trail" has another dozen numbers of Oregon Trail-era songs. We think listeners will also be interested in their two albums of holiday songs, "An Old Fashioned Christmas" and "Christmas With the Trail Band." For the most part these are Christmas songs unfamiliar to todays listeners (but well known in great-grandparents time). Furthermore, the band exhibits absolutely superb musicianshipeach performer is highly skilled and most double on several instruments. The Patrice Press now has inventory on all four titles, including audiotapes for all allbums, and compact disks (CDs) for "An Old Fashioned Christmas" and "Christmas with the Trail Band". The tapes retail for $19.95 and the CDs are $22.95. We can ship those things the same way as the maps--in groups of up to five units for $3.95 shipping. |
